Blocking Spam Messages and sending them to Deleted Folder
Home » Tutorials » Other » Microsoft Outlook Express

If you use Microsoft Outlook Express to receive and send emails, you might already know that you can send some messages(emails) to specific folders according to their contents, title of the message, from whom it is originating..etc. This might be a powerful tool to sort out your emails, you can use it not only to block the SPAM but also to sort your emails, if they are coming from friends then to send it to FRIENDS folder, if it is coming from PayPal then to send it to MONEY folder, you got what I mean right? So let's see how to do it.

Open your Outlook Express and go to Tools>Message Rules>Mail you will be shown the following window.

Here you are given different choices, for example if you tick the first selection as shown in the window, you are given an option to enter people's email addresses that you would like this MAIL RULE to put all the emails from him/her to specific folder (that is what we are going to do in this example, you can apply any other action to your own MAIL RULE). So click on the contains people link in the 3rd window pane.

Once you click on it, you will be shown the following window.

Click on the Address Book button.

Here in the Address Book window you supposed to be shown all your contacts on the left side of the window, in my example currently it is empty. However you just select the people you would like and click FROM button to add to the list.

When you are done with your selection, click OK. You will be shown the previous window again with your selected emails, click OK again to close it.

Now we are done with the selection process, and we will move to apply some action to it. In this example we will be moving the emails originating from the people in the list to a specific folder.

Tick "Move it to the specified folder" option in the 2nd pane, and click on the specified link in the 3rd pane.

Once the popup window opens select the Folder you want all the emails to be moved to, and click OK.

In the 4rth pane, name your new MAIL RULE and click OK. In my example I have named it Friends as you can see.

You are done, next time somebody from this list send you an email, that email will directly go to your Friends folder. You can setup several MAIL RULES to sort out all the common emails that you receive daily. You can also setup a RULE with keywords for SPAM to filter them out to DELETED folder or to directly DELETE them. I guess moving them to DELETED folder is better, so that you can double check what emails have been filtered.
