Other tools for backing up your Outlook Express might be convenient, but it is worth to know how to backup your emails manually. You cannot rely on other softwares all the time, sometimes the file that is created by the backup software might be corrupted. If that is the case then you will loose all your emails. That's why it is always a good idea to backup your emails manually, at least once in a while, just to make sure that you have the original Outlook Express files.
Ok, let's start. Open your email, right click on your Inbox and choose Properties.

Click and highlight the folder path for the Inbox, now right click and choose Copy. This is the path for the emails that are stored in the Inbox.

Now click on Start button and Choose Run.

In the dialog box, paste the url that you copied in step 1, however delete the Inbox.dbx part. Because we want to backup all the other folders too not only Inbox folder.
Click OK |
You will be shown the folder where all your email folders reside, select all of them and copy to somewhere safe.
These folders contain all your emails as you have arranged in your Outlook Express.

Restoring your emails is easy, when you create a new identity in Outlook Express, follow the steps (Step 1 to Step 3) to locate the folder and paste all your back up files inside, except the cleanup.log. You are done! Now you are safe from any risk of loosing your emails, moreover you are not dependent on any other 3rd party software to backup your emails. Good Luck!
